Monastery of Christ our Saviour

Br Herbert

Brother Herbert Kaden OSB

Born 25 January 1921; died 1st October 2022 aged 101 years
(and 8 months) professed 49 years.

Our dear Brother Herbert has passed away peacefully, and after such a long and diverse life it’s difficult to know where to begin. This then is simply a thank you letter to the Lord for his life and beautiful death and his gift to us all of pure unadulterated friendship. He knew how to live life for others. He knew how to love. So although there is inevitably, and quite naturally, sadness at his passing there is also great joy knowing that such a life is possible, and he’s left us with so many fond memories and an archive of pictures which still smile at us and assure us of his continued love. He lived and loved full-on to the end and if this world does indeed speak of the next there can be no more fitting symbol of his approaching end than the visit of the podiatrist last week anointing his feet and bringing flowers as well. Suffice to say, he was in Christ then and is in Christ now.

With deep gratitude from us all,

Brother John

Br Herbert’s Paintings

Br Herbert was a very skilled artist, with many years experience! In 2019 there was an exhibition and sale of his paintings at the Monastery, the proceeds of which went to the SMART Prebend Centre, Bedford. The Centre provides facilities, support and guidance; to relieve rough sleeping and to prevent further homelessness.

A catalogue is available with a selection of Fine Art Giclée  prints taken of the paintings from the Art Exhibition of Br Herbert Kaden’s work.
Each print is produced on St Cuthbert’s Mill Somerset textured 225 gsm archival paper and  comes with a single mount, ready to frame plus a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Br Herbert Kaden.
